HD Ready Skincare Secrets

Intraceuticals' very own LA-based Samantha MarQuard has contributed to the Actor's Blog, a feature of NOHO Arts District. Read on to see what she reveals as the secrets to achieving HD Ready Skin.

Skin Care for Actors (or) What You Can Do to Make Yourself Look Great on HD

It’s one of those things that few actors talk about (especially guys) and yet it is an important part of our industry… your skin and how you look on camera! Therefore, I wanted to shake things up a little this time and talk about skin care. Actually, I wanted my wife to talk about it since she’s a consultant to the stars and working pro in that arena. So, without further ado let me hand the reigns over to her.

HD Ready Skincare Secrets

Hello NOHO readers. I am guest blogging this week on how to get your skin HD camera ready. I work for Intraceuticals a skincare brand that has been working with makeup artists and celebrities since HD technology became popular. As the Film & Television Liaison for the company I work directly with makeup artists and celebrities to help them achieve HD ready skin. In addition I educate skincare professionals and doctors on how to help their clients have the best skin possible.

Part of the reason HD is so unflattering is that it picks up more information than the human eye can read than if you were looking at someone in person.  This technology has made the job of a makeup artist more of a challenge and as the entertainment industry and budgets have changed they will not always fix it in post ☹ All this to say if you are going to be on camera the condition of your skin is more important now than ever as it is not so easy to hide things with makeup alone.

The good news is that skincare technology is also advancing and there are now numerous options to help anyone achieve great skin!  That said there are some basic things you can start doing immediately to help your overall skin to be healthier and look great on camera.  I believe that healthy skin is happy skin and vice versa.   I am aware some people reading this may already be skincare junkies buying all kinds of products and getting regular facials etc.  For everyone else here are some basic tips.  This advice applies to women and men.

1. Use a washcloth when you wash your face. I am continually surprised at the number of people I meet who think using their hands is sufficient. If you have oily or congested skin I recommend purchasing a Clarisonic skin brush as this will help clean your skin thoroughly without over-stripping it. This is also important if you are on a show where heavy makeup is being used. On my visits to TV sets I often see heavy makeup on actors. This will affect your skin if not effectively removed every day.

2. Get a filter for your shower head. Why? LA water has a lot of chlorine which can dry out your skin. You can get one for around $40-$50 and they last about a year before you need to replace them. The replacement filter is even cheaper.

3. If you are going to see an esthetician or dermatologist get laser etc., please do yourself a favor and DO NOT look for a bargain! You cannot imagine the horror stories I have seen out there from people trying to get a deal on procedures that carry more risk than you may imagine.  This is especially true if you are of a mixed race you need to be very careful particularly with laser treatments. This is your face after all…it’s not like getting a bad haircut that will grow out. The wrong treatment for the wrong skin type can cause permanent damage.

4. If you have acne and are picking at your skin please know I am sympathetic to this. I am a reformed picker myself. That said, know if you are doing this on a regular basis you can damage your cells which leads to scarring and that is not easy to fix.  If you are dealing with acne you really should be seeing a professional who can do extractions for you.  There is actually an art to extracting the skin so do your homework when looking for an esthetician.  Some estheticians are amazing and specialize in this and some don’t.

5. Don’t over peel your skin. If you do you will break down the skin barrier to the point where you can actually create sensitive skin.  Also unless you have thick or oily skin be careful with microdermabrasion. It is not for every skin type especially mature fragile skin.

6. Besides a good sunscreen (the Coola brand is my favorite!) I actually consider a high quality foundation to be another layer of skin protection from the pollution you can’t see. I love California and I love LA but as far as your skin is concerned it is a toxic desert. One of my personal favorite foundations is from Jouer cosmetics. They have a luminizing moisture tint and a matte one as well as other types of foundations. This line was created by an actress who loved being in the makeup trailer so much she created her own line.

7. Hydrate your skin. This is different than moisturizing which is actually old technology developed in the 1900s. The difference between Hydration and moisturizing is Hydration transforms your skin on the inside whereas most moisturizers are literally sitting on top of your skin like a piece of clothing. This brings me back to
Intraceuticals as I have not found a product or facial that hydrates and transforms the skin better.  If I did I would tell you about it or I would be working for that product line! You can check out our testimonials at www.intraceuticals.com.

8. Embrace your age & stage of life. I recommend this to everyone but in regard to actors this directly affects your casting. There are so many women in particular over doing the Botox and injectables. To quote actress Julianne Moore “plastic surgery does not necessarily make you look younger it often makes you look strange”.  Sadly I see this far too often.  As an opposite example of this in 2012 I visited the “Hitchcock” movie set and worked on Helen Mirren, Toni Colette and Jessica Biel. They are all beautiful and lovely women inside and out.  Helen Mirren is not trying to look like she is 25 and her career is all the better for it.

9. Lastly smile…I know this tip might sound strange but I met a woman once who told me she chose not to smile because she did not want to have laugh lines. This made me sad for her as she was a nice person but never looked happy.  Regardless of your skin or age everyone looks better with a smile!

Skin-quenching Intraceuticals lands in Palm Springs

Spa at Saguaro Puts the Blushing Next to Bride
Intraceuticals treatments give immediate rejuvenation, and beyond.

BY RANDI WOOD

Summer means weddings, and brides-to-be want nothing more than to be blushing.

The Spa at the Saguaro hotel in Palm Springs offers facial treatments using Intraceuticals, which has been a celebrity favorite for years and is great for the desert climate focusing on hydrating and replenishing skin.

But it’s also perfect for brides looking for everything to be perfect for that milestone in their life.
Writer Randi Wood underwent the Rejuvenation Treatment
at the Spa at Saguaro Hotel in Palm Springs

“Their skin will never appear blotchy or uneven, which can often happen after a more traditional facial experience,” said Theron Puccinelli, spa director at Saguaro. “There is no reaction or sensitivity, and the bride will achieve that instant overall radiant glow. The best part is that makeup can be applied immediately after without any negative effect."

The cozy spa on the hotel’s basement level continues the vibrant color palette and funky bohemian style used on the Saguaro's exterior and room interiors. In a quite contradictory fashion, all their facial services by Intraceuticals are cutting edge.

I had the Intraceuticals Rejuvenate treatment done, which focuses on the ultimate in skin hydration and provides immediate results in addition to several days later. The treatment focuses on three elements:

•    Oxygen is blown through a light silver hand-held device that channels age defying ingredients to the skin while it cools it. This felt slightly odd at first and then somewhat relaxing. (My best real life comparison would be a hose for inflating tire pressure hovering above your skin.)

•    A lightweight Hyaluronic Acid is applied through the Rejuvenate Serum. This has active vitamins and antioxidants that hydrate the skin to provide firmness and a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles.

•    Treatment Support Products are used to preserve the overall glow and radiance for your newfound face. They provide essential layers to lock in the skin nutrients for the longest-lasting results.

The treatment does not take long at all, and you don’t even have to disrobe. My makeup was removed and I lay on the treatment table.

My face felt more radiant after my Rejuvenate treatment and I noticed a difference in fine lines over the next week.

Additional treatments include Atoxelene and Anti-Aging Treatments, and either of these will be sure to punch a noticeable difference.

“I have had the Intraceuticals treatments on my service menu at other spas, and they are always extremely popular especially for clients that are traveling and want a quick overall uplift or simply want to try something new,” Puccinelli said.

Intraceuticals is popular with the celebrity crowd,
and also for brides to be. Randi Wood.

British Actress Ruby Snape talks Intraceuticals

Ruby Snape
Image: www.rubysnape.blogspot.co.uk
Through her blog, London-based British actress Ruby Snape has shared her experience of Intraceuticals at Dr Rabia Malik's clinic, Skin W1. Read on to see what Ruby has to say about her treatment...

"Inraceuticals Oxygen Infusion with Dr Rabia Malik

Intraceuticals Oxygen Infusion is the must-have treatment of the stars and beauty enthusiasts alike. Having had a spate of auditions recently I thought it would be a great idea to have this treatment to rejuvenate my skin and give me a radiant appearance to help me along a bit! A friend of mine recommended Dr Rabia Malik, a cosmetic skin doctor at Skin W1, 11 Devonshire Place, London W1.

Dr Malik has a particular stance on skin rejuvenation and how to achieve the best results for your skin. She has turned her back on injectables (Botox, fillers and any form of surgical intervention) which makes her unique and a breath of fresh air. Instead she focuses her attention on a different approach to achieve healthy, radiant, luminous skin, tackling ageing, acne, pigmentation and a whole host of other skin issues. She specialises in non-invasive, non-surgical treatments for the skin providing a personal solution tailor-made to the individuals needs. Her holistic approach includes; Transdermal Mesotherapy, Medical Grade Dermaroller, Face Peels, LED Light Therapy, Dermamelon Anti-Pigmentation Mask as well as the
Intraceuticals Oxygen Infusion which was the treatment I opted for.

Dr Rabia Malik

The process takes around an hour, is very relaxing and not at all painful. Dr Malik uses a special tool to push the serum containing hyaluronic acid, vitamins and antioxidants deep into the cells to instantly hydrate, plump and refresh the skin. To see a noticeable difference Dr Malik treated one side of my face first so I could fully comprehend the effect compared to the other side of my face. The visible difference in my skin was amazing; it was more radiant, plumper and fresher-looking. After the treatment was completed my skin felt softer and smoother too. I looked like I'd had a weeks rest. People complimented me on my glowing skin.

The oxygen infusion isn't a permanent fix. After 72 hours the effects gradually wear off, but it's fabulous for a pre-event boost to the skin - perfect before a big party, red carpet event or in my case an audition. Fans of the
Intraceuticals Oxygen Infusion include; Madonna, J-Lo, Eva Longoria, Katherine Jenkins and many more. I was given sachet-sized samples of the Intraceuticals skincare to use in the couple of days following the treatment to capitalise on the hyaluronic-plumping effects of the serum infused into my skin

I really like Dr Rabia Malik's unique approach to skincare. She is extremely knowledgable and passionate about what she does. She's a beautiful woman with radiant skin which is a great testimony to her own work! I highly recommend her."
